“Amina, 18, and Sarah Yaser Said, 17, who both attended Lewisville High School, were found shot to death in a taxi at an Irving motel Tuesday night. ”
Well what are we going to do about it Muslims? I could sit here and give a lengthy dissertation about how this practice and these actions are not Islamic and that of course is very true. However, what we have to realize is that doesn’t matter in the eyes of the American public.
Here we have another example of what happens when perversion of Islam goes wrong. Here we have another example of culture being imposed on a religion that teaches against that very same culture.
Whatever the thesis, the oft-returning question is now what? How many of us are going to target the non-Muslims by telling them how these actions are not a part of Islam, how the Prophet (saw) forbade this, how the majority of Muslims, blah, blah, blah……
We are reaching a crucial point here in America where we have to show what true Islam consist of. Islam is not a religion of talk but of action.
What I call upon all able bodied Muslims in America to do is to become vigilant in the eradication of these backward ideologies and practices that have no place in Islam. The principle one is “FREEDOM OF CHOICE” it is not our duty to punish, attack, etc. any Muslim or non-Muslim for not acting or believing as we do.
Allah (swt) says in the Quran:
6:164 Say: “Am I, then, to seek a sustainer other than God, when He is the Sustainer of all things?” And whatever any human being commits rests upon himself alone; and no bearer of burdens shall be made to bear another’s burden. And, in time, unto your Sustainer you all must return: and then He will make you. [truly] understand all that on which you were wont to differ.
Even if we believe one is not following Islam and are in error Allah (swt) also says:
2:256 THERE SHALL BE no coercion in matters of faith. Distinct has now become the right way from [the way of] error: hence, he who rejects the powers of evil and believes in God has indeed taken hold of a support most unfailing, which shall never give way: for God is all-hearing, all-knowing.
What I am calling for is every Muslim Student Association, Masjid/Mosque, Council, Organization, and individual to promptly and swiftly denouce this and all actions committed by Muslims in our name. Let us use a myriad of sources and media to address these issues giving special attention to our Kutbah’s/sermons in the Mosques and teaching our children and families in the home.
The time to remain silent and pray it all goes away is over. Here we have two dead girls, there was one in Canada a month or so ago, and many girls here in America now that fear the same end. Rise up Muslim Ummah in the cause of Islam!
Let me reiterate:
I, Robert Salaam hereby condemn Yaser Abdel Said or any other suspect, in connection with the murder of his daughters Sarah and Amina Yaser Said. This is a terrible tragedy and in no way reflects the true teachings of Islam nor Prophet Muhammad, may the peace and blessing of God be upon him. I offer my sincere prayer and condolences to the Said family, friends, and all who have been touched by this horrific event. I ask almighty God, Allah (swt) to ensure that His Mercy and Compassion is extended to all in this time of need and that His justice is swift in His pronouncement. As a Muslim, student, and believer in Islam, I know that the perversion of my faith is a present reality and a threat to all who love peace. I believe it is the duty of every Muslim to strive toward peace by enjoining what is good and forbidding that which is evil. I stand here today and reaffirm my personal commitment to do all that I am able to do to ensure that I spread the message of Islam in it’s truth to Muslims and non-Muslims alike. I also reaffirm that I will continue to fight extremist and radical ideology that masquerades itself as Islam. I believe that God wants His believers to be engaged and active, I pray that His true believers continue and strive to be just that.
9:71 The Believers, men and women, are protectors one of another: they enjoin what is just, and forbid what is evil: they observe regular prayers, practice regular charity, and obey Allah and His Messenger. On them will Allah pour His mercy: for Allah is Exalted in power, Wise.
