To my overly sensitive Muslim brothers and sisters….

Rep. Keith Ellison, D-Minnesota, re-enacts taking the oath of office from Speaker Nancy Pelosi while his wife, Kim, holds the Quran.

I don’t want to beat the dead horse about Keith Ellison….However there was an interesting article on CNN today about him yet again entitled “Muslim congressman shakes critic’s hand“, which is the subject of todays “rant”.  In the article Keith Ellison said:

“By reaching out to Congressman Goode I’m not trying to be accepted, I’m trying to build bridges,” Ellison said. “In this world there are too many misunderstandings. I want to put a human face on things.”

In my humble opinion that is a very Islamic thing to do.  He didnt stage a protest, burn US Flags, issue death threats, or seek radical Fatwa’s.   He realized that oftentimes, you have to realize that we Muslims are not the only people on Earth.

Therefore, we are going to have to learn how to deal with people different from us, whether we like it or not.  Furthermore, we cannot allow ourselves to get so full of zeal that we loose our God-given reason, and therefore, create more harm than good.

Especially, over words that we feel are insulting.  I mean what do we expect?  Do we really expect those who don’t like us or our religon to roll out the red carpet and be kind to us?  If not, then what’s all the fighting and protesting about?  If you expect it, then you should be more prepared to deal with it.

Rep.  Ellison has taken the moral high ground.  He has obviously learned something from our Prophet (saw), I pray that we learn the same thing(s).

41:34 But since good and evil cannot be equal, repel thou evil with something that is better and lo! he between whom and thyself was enmity may then become as though he had always been close unto thee, a true friend!

  1. And what about all those verses in the Quran that teach hate and violence against non-Mulims? Does your dear congressmen pretend to follow them or the nice verses? You know you can find anything you want in the Quran.

Also when you write SAW/PBUH after your prophets name, please understand that I, a non-Muslim, am insulted. If you read the hadiths you will see that your dear prophet murdered, tortured, raided, enslaved and even beat his own 9 year old wife. Is that the kind of man your dear congressman pretends to follow?

Let me leave you a few words from your own scriptures:

“Muhammad is the apostle of Allah. Those who follow him are merciful to one another, but ruthless to unbelievers” (Quran 48:29)

    And from the hadiths:

Ibn ‘Aun reported: …The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) made a raid upon Banu Mustaliq while they were unaware and their cattle were having a drink at the water. He killed those who fought and imprisoned others. On that very day, he captured Juwairiya bint al-Harith. (Muslim Book 019, Number 4292 – also in Bukhari). Let’s see: surprise raid, plunder, murder, captives, slaves, and if you follow the link and keep reading, rape of the women captives. You must be so proud.

Or maybe I can’t read… Maybe it doesn’t say those things. Maybe they have nothing to do with the hate and violence we see in Islam today. Maybe.

    John Kactuz,
Telling the truth because others are too damn PC and don’t care.

PS: I really don’t care what book a person uses to take an oatyh. The Quran is very fitting for Muslims and explains a lot about what we see in Islamic societies.

  2. Let us start with this verse, as I know it applies to you:

3:7 He it is who has bestowed upon thee from on high this divine writ, containing messages that are clear in and by themselves – and these are the essence of the divine writ – as well as others that are allegorical. Now those whose hearts are given to swerving from the truth go after that part of the divine writ which has been expressed in allegory, seeking out what is bound to create confusion, and seeking to arrive at its final meaning in an arbitrary manner; but none save God knows its final meaning. Hence, those who are deeply rooted in knowledge say: “We believe in it; the whole of the divine writ is from our Sustainer – albeit none takes this to heart save those who are endowed with insight.

I suggest your study that verse first. Then you might proceed to the book of Matthew in the Bible where Jesus (saw) talks about getting the beam out of your own eye first. Or better yet, the sermon on the mount where he calls the peacemakers the children of God, or the meek shall inherit the Earth.

I bring that up because of the obvious hypocrisy in your tone and statement.

If you are a Christian, what parts of the Bible do you follow?

Because according to it, many Prophets and messengers were drunks, adulterers, murderers, pedophiles, criminals, etc. Not to mention the verses where God tells His followers to kill every living thing including the animals!

Let’s not forget Jesus in Revelation coming from heaven with great power carrying a sword dripping with blood…

I could go on and on, but to do so would be to stoop to your level, and would be a discredit to my academic knowledge and study of religion.

Know that you can find whatever your eyes and HEART wants to see, but the fact remains the overwhelming majority of 1.5 billion Muslims havent hurt even a fly and are law-abiding citizens.

Now in America with our crime rate and murder rate should we ASSume that with a 74% Christian population, that the majority of Christians especially in America are violent criminals?

    Ponder on these things…

    Peace

  3. Great reply, AbdurSalaam. It’s sad that “they” (people like John or Osama bin Laden’s type) see great humans like Ellison and assume that he is not following his religion, when in fact, they are following it perfectly. “They” accuse well-behaved and wonderful Muslims of cherry-picking from the Quran and ignoring the “bad verses” while I would say “they” are the ones who cherry-pick and do not bother to see the verses which temper, describe or give exceptions to those so-called “bad” verses.

John says: “You know you can find anything you want in the Quran.” That’s not entirely true. Those who pick-and-choose and lack understanding will find only evil, but those who take the time to read, contemplate and understand will not be misled; they will find truth and beauty.

I think Ellison has done a great thing and made a wonderful example for every human being through his behavior. 🙂

Perhaps the same sort of insult I feel when I hear -‘Jesus Christ My Lord & Saviour” Something the man himself never claimed to be. Yet, instead of being angry at you, I feel pity that you are not following your own Messenger because you are too busy consumming yourself with finding fault in others.
